The makers of last week’s BBC One’s Watchdog programme about ticket touts and next year’s Rugby World Cup have been consulting Leamington solicitor and former RFU committee member Richard Moon. The programme, which was aired on May 28, investigated the risk of buying tickets from online resale sites for the Rugby World Club, being staged in England and Wales in September next year.

Mr Moon, a former England and Barbarians scrum half and head of the employment law and sports law departments at Leamington law firm Berrymans Solicitors, said he had been consulted by the programme makers in his capacity as a director of the Leamington-based Rugby Coaches Association (RCA), which he helped set up in 2012 along with other former internationals, including Sir Ian McGeechan. “There are obviously dangers in buying from anywhere other than the official RFU website and the Watchdog team was keen to highlight those risks,” said Mr Moon, who also helped establish the Rugby Union Players’ Association in 1996.

As well as the RCA, Berrymans Solicitors sports law unit also acts for Bowls England, British Swimming, British Eventing, British Blind Sport, the national Elite Cricket Coaches Association and Riding for the Disabled. It also represents international rugby players, county cricketers, athletics coaches and Olympic horsemen, as well such local concerns such as Warwick Boat Club and Leamington Cricket Club.
